Unifying Nucleic Acid and Protein, Thermal and Isothermal: The Launch of the Digital Omni Molecular Detection System

At the end of June 2025, Turtle Technology officially launched the Digital Omni Full-Modality Molecular System  in Shanghai. This groundbreaking platform is the first in the industry to integrate three major functions into a single system: digital PCR detection (thermocycling-based nucleic acid testing), digital isothermal detection (isothermal nucleic acid testing), and digital single-molecule immunoassay (protein detection based on immuno-PCR principles). This signifies the beginning of a new era of unified molecular diagnostics.

In cutting-edge molecular detection applications, researchers often require multiple different systems to test both nucleic acids and proteins. This leads to high equipment investment and operational challenges in terms of workflow, data integration, and quality control. As the industry’s first truly unified detection platform, the Digital Omni system solves several key technical challenges and takes molecular diagnostics to a new level.

Core Innovation Through Unique Construct of Technological Integration

The Digital Omni System is built on Turtle Technology’s highly open and compatible core platform, which includes proprietary innovations such as “solid-state oil-water separation” droplet generation, sandwich-structured microfluidic chips, and all-in-one automated instrumentation.

  • Digital PCR Mode: Enables high-precision absolute quantification of nucleic acids. Combined with exponential ultra-multiplexing technology, it allows the detection of over 15–30 targets per tube.
  • Digital Isothermal Mode: Compatible with multiple isothermal amplification methods such as LAMP, RPA, ERA, and SAT, completing quantification in as little as 25 minutes.

Breakthrough in Digital Single-Molecule Immunoassay

The most significant innovation lies in its integration of digital single-molecule protein detectionunifying what were traditionally separate systems for nucleic acid and protein analysis. This development paves a new path for molecular diagnostics.

While traditional protein assays such as ELISA are limited in sensitivity, Digital Omni adopts a next-generation immuno-PCR-based method that suppresses background noise and significantly improves the signal-to-noise ratio. As a result, it achieves detection sensitivity at the fg/mL level, improving sensitivity by 100 to 1000 times compared to conventional ELISA — all while maintaining a comparable cost. This enables true single-molecule protein detection at low cost, unlocking new potential for ultra-sensitive biomarker testing.

Moreover, the platform is highly open and compatible with a range of protein detection techniques:

  • New binding-induced reaction methods such as BIOSEER (Binding-Induced Oligonucleotide Successive Exchange and Extension Reactions)
  • Traditional PLA/PEA (Proximity Ligation/Extension Assays)
  • Immuno-PCR based on classic sandwich ELISA
  • Super-sensitive quantification of pathogenic protein aggregates using Digital Seed Amplification Assay (dSAA)

A New Era of Unified Molecular Detection

The launch of the Digital Omni System demonstrates the feasibility of deeply integrating various detection technologies within a single platform. Its fusion of nucleic acid and protein detection sets a pioneering example for the industry and reflects the strong innovation capacity of Chinese life science companies.

With its all-in-one design, Digital Omni significantly reduces equipment and maintenance costs, eliminating the need for multiple devices and specialized personnel. It effectively lowers the barrier to entry for advanced diagnostics, making single-molecule testing more accessible and applicable across a wide range of fields.
